The Trilobite of the Month for March 2008 is an amazing fully articulated example of a spiny Chinese trilobite normally found as disarticulated segments. Currently listed in the family Damesellidae, superfamily Dameselloidea, it is classified either within the order Lichida, or alternately in order Odontopleurida. However, the relationships of the Cambrian trilobites are often blurred, and some recent evidence from ontogeny raises some doubts on both both Lichida and Odontopleurida affinities. I am particularly appreciative of the graceful sigmoid curves of the thoracic pleural spines, easily as elegant as Chinese carvings. Many details of this specimen were brought into clarity by expert prep work by Dave Comfort.
