ngenisis rated 15 months ago- This IS winnable, I DID beat it, and it is only possible BECAUSE you are forced to go first. He plays a perfect game and will only win if you do not follow a perfect strategy from the beginning. In order to win, at the end of each turn there must be a nim sum of 0. In other words, if you broke the number of pearls in each row into binary (11, 100, and 101 respectively) and canceled each pair of digits of the same pace value. To visualize this, I am going to split up the rows into binary groups and show the correct move. At the start of the game, the board looks like this:
oo o
oooo
oooo o
In order to make the correct move here you must mentally cancel out pairs of like-sized groups. Since there are two groups that have four pearls in them, they cancel out. There are two groups with one pearl in them, so they cancel out. However, there is only one group of two. In order for everything to cancel, you must remove those two. You can't remove them from anywhere, you must get rid of the pearls that form that group of two (in this case, remove two pearls from the first row) You must stop following this method once it gets down to just a few pearls, because it does not work in that case. To see exactly what to do and see the mathematical proof that this is the perfect method, go to Nim, Wikipedia
This game happens to be the misère form of nim, so you will have to find the strategy for a misère game on that page. I hope this helps. *cough*click helpful*cough*

chievous rated 26 months ago- Aaaaarrrggghhh... Can't beat the damn thing... And the insane laughter; that's killing me...
I suspect this thing is un-beatable... But that could just be my ego from deep down :)
melpel337 rated 30 months ago- Okay, it's like playing a game at the carnival...the booth worker-guy is irritating and creepy, you can't win, and still-you just keep plunking those quarters down (well, without the quarters part-it's free.)
