Here is good example of atheist confirmation bias.

I'll show this next time some theist tells me how society would fall about without believing in their particular deity.

From the page: "â€oeIn general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy and abortion in the prosperous democracies."

From the page: "The non-religious, proevolution democracies contradict the dictum that a society cannot enjoy good conditions unless most citizens ardently believe in a moral creator. The widely held fear that a Godless citizenry must experience societal disaster is therefore refuted."

From the page: "In general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy and abortion in the prosperous democracies. â€oeThe United States is almost always the most dysfunctional of the developing democracies, sometimes spectacularly so.”" The most telling an damning quotes from the article. I'm not sure that its fair to attribute all of the numerous failing of the US to its religiosity, but there is a correlation, which really is all that is said. I would guess that religion is instead a contributor to other factors (politics, economic distribution of wealth, health care, education, etc), that would influence the disparity and poor standing of our country.

From the page: "Societies worse off 'when they have God on their side'" now, while i may agree with this statement, this "study" sounds like a bunch of crap. i'm not clear on how we know that the u.s.'s social problems are the result of religious belief and not, say, fluoride in the drinking water. when conducting an experiment or study, it's pretty standard to control for other factors that could cause the effects you observe, allowing you to be fairly certain that the effect you see is caused by what you think is causing it.

I think the article may not be analyzing all the evidence and jumping to conclusions, as it might just not be religion raising those values. It would be very interesting if it had more evidence/sources.
