From the page: "There was a time when it was cool to be on Facebook. That time has passed. Facebook now has 150 million members, and its fastest-growing demographic is 30 and up. At this point, it's way cooler not to be on Facebook. We've ruined it for good, just like we ruined Twilight and skateboarding. So git! And while you're at it, you damn kids better get off our lawn too."

Very very very very telling and a great reason why the older generation should embrace it.

Why Facebook Is for Old Fogies From the page: "9. We don't understand Twitter. Literally. It makes no sense to us. 10. We're not cool, and we don't care. There was a time when it was cool to be on Facebook. That time has passed. Facebook now has 150 million members, and its fastest-growing demographic is 30 and up. At this point, it's way cooler not to be on Facebook. We've ruined it for good, just like we ruined Twilight and skateboarding. So git! And while you're at it, you damn kids better get off our lawn too." Am I the only person who looks at social networking sites and asks -- "WHY!?!?!" I mean, I DO NOT GET IT! I looked at MySpace several years ago and after looking around and playing around for a few days.... I kept asking myself the same question... "Why??" "What's the point??" Fake Friends, bad webpage designs, inane discussions --- 'desperation street'?, no 'desperation town'! I can --kinda-- see the point if the goal is some sort of profile/publicity for a musician, a model or actor. But wouldn't the point be to have a good looking site that was surrounded by serious people to show that you are a serious person? How many hollywood / music company exec types are trolling the depths of MySpace looking for the next >>>put name here ?? So then it just appears to be a place for some level of social interaction online.. but even then it would seem that there are much more appropriate sites for discussions of those things that interest people -- like cooking > cooking site; like technology > tech site; like decor > decorating site; like porn > porn site. What is the draw of sites like MySpace?? Just a place for inane conversations about little or nothing? Just a gathering place for those who don't know of sites that actually cater to their interests? Just a place to create really bad webpages and post annoying blinking, animated signature tags? And Facebook isn't much better. It seemed like a -kinda- good idea to steal the Myspace idea and create a site where 'serious' business people could interact. But that didn't last long -- the 'serious' part. I created an account there to see what the deal was -- see what business was being conducted. But it turned out to be more or less what MySpace was -- just a little more 'dressed up'. If people are that desperate for social interaction then why not go out somewhere were actual people gather -- hell, that doesn't even have to cost anything. I don't even want to get started on Twitter! WTF!? I must be getting old..

I love this story. The writing is silly/clever and I agree with all the points except the one about Twitter. Despite what the author says, I think the middle-aged already rule that platform. ;-)
