If God is relational, why aren't we when we talk to others about him?

I'm glad the impersonal tract is finally falling out of favor - give me a good relationship any day. That speaks volumes more about God's love than a little paper that tells you you're going to hell unless you say some generic prayer. I want to be able to provide an example that reflects my witness.

Good article. He's mostly right on, he just needs to assume less about various populations and what they might believe.

Even I can appreciate what you are saying with regard to the way Christians go about preaching or whatever you want to call it. I appreciate that you try and help people you don't know, even though I believe that you don't help society or them for more than few moments when they feel more inspired and feel better from having someone to talk to which happens WHENEVER someone seems to try and understand your situation in life. The sceptic in me seems to say that Christians won't be able to resist being really annoying in the end and the very fact that you are motivated by getting your ass into heaven and not genuinely interested in anything these people have to say (a la Kirk Camren) would put me off. However, from how you described the types of places you go to witness (I assume that basically means preach) the majority of people you speak to will probably just stand there with a mouth full of teeth.

Yeah, kind of. But this guy seems to forget that we aren't Jesus - being incredibly creative and innovative is OK for the gifted, but most Christians would probably rather walk before they try to run. Using a learned message or a pamphlet could be a good way to start. Anyway, trying to copy Jesus here is pretty weird - Jesus wasn't trying to get people to follow him, and actually kept telling people to go away.

This guy has hit the nail on the head...if only the millions of so called 'Christians' knew this.

Yes! Exactly =D Honestly I could never bring myself to do it the other way. It didn't work for me, it seemed stupid to me and I couldn't get the words to come out of my mouth. Relating to people in a very personal and individual manner is much more effective and more rewarding in the long run- no matter what the decision. And you have to realize that you are not going to convince anybody to come to Christ. I made my decision at home alone after months fighting against it and after no new incident. I just believed where I had not the moment before. There are no magic words, no brilliant argument. You are only there to plant a seed, to tell what you know and most importantly, to show love. Many many many of us do exactly the opposite. Running through the motions- knocking on the door, reciting the lines, making people say the prayer- this is not some ritual spell that will seal the salvation of these people. *Unfortunately* it takes a lot more. Where I fail and many fail, I think is in caring enough to put forth that effort. Sure I'll put forth the effort for my sister or a cute kid or somebody I already know to be fun to hang out with, but I'm obviously lacking in the area of love toward the rest. :( Anyway, wonderful article. I wish I could give it multiple ups!
