Clogiron discovered 14 days ago- I've known Master Li for over 25 years and until this weekend I never knew he had a great admiration for J class Yachts (J Boats to the cognocenti) We were leaning on the rail at Ellenroad Engine House watching the crosshead of the big Mill Engine there swing effortlessly to and fro and Li was just discussing what he'd own if he came into a great deal of money, first on the list was a vintage Bentley then a De Havilland Mosquito and on his list was a J class yacht, which was a coincidence as I had just come across this site (click Header) while chasing down Tindinks Wooden Half Ship post. Just a model of a J Boat costs $1400. The sepia photo is of Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock IV taken pre WW1 when she had her cutter rig which I prefer to the Bermudian she had later.
