avmoor discovered 5 weeks ago- The beltway's message that the Good Times are here to stay and that Washington's financial stewardship has been nothing less than brilliant has not reached everyone. A pity. Some old-timers have this archaic belief that a bank is a warehouse where a person temporarily stores money. When for some reason it is needed - you go get some. If it isn't there when you ask for it back, you call the police: the place has been looted. Call it old fashioned, but the idea that a rerun of the 1930's is what people hoped a conservative government would do for them doesn't quite cut it. From the page: "LOS ANGELES - Diane Klein is not sure what she would trust more to hold her money - IndyMac Bank or a hole in her backyard. The retired teacher is among hundreds of people who have crowded outside IndyMac Bank branches across Southern California this week, many waiting hours in line to withdraw their funds from the failing bank that was seized by federal regulators. "Once I get in the door, I'm going to get every penny I can out of there," Ms. Klein told The Associated Press while waiting in line outside the bank's headquarters in Pasadena. "I'm going to bury it in the backyard." She originally chose IndyMac for its high interest rates. She said her account has more than the federally insured limit of $100,000 and does not want to risk losing any of it."
