Obesity and its many spawn-child complications--such as diabetes--are a major health problem in developed countries. A suggestion that can help: If your child (or you) are overweight or obese, immediately STOP drinking all those sugary drinks, particularly sodas; just substitute water for them instead. [As Groucho Marx used to quip on You Beat Your Life, that old quiz show on TV, "It's a common word [water], a word you use every day.]
Quality drinking water is getter scarcer around the world, true, but presently here in the USA (and most developed countries) it can easily and cheaply be obtained with just a simple twist of the tap. There's no excuse for not availing oneself of this truly excellent and natural substitution for sugary drinks.
