I have the utmost respect for Jon Stewart. How he articulates his personal feelings about a tragedy which messed me up pretty nicely makes me proud that people like him exist to speak in a public forum. This speech is extremely moving... I QQ'ed a little.

In reference to why Jon Stewart didnt' do the Daily Show during the Writer's Strike (save the last week or so) is because he most likely didn't want to cross the picket, because he, unlike anyone on Fox; CNN; MSNBC; what have you, actually has a soul.

The joke starts when he pretends to cry, yeah?

Interesting to watch this now, and remember that at the time, everyone was pulling together to help each other. Then think back to Hurricane Katrina, and how America has just left that city to die.

tremendously moving

@greenchair: That's because Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Boortz, Savage, etc etc etc just keep saying the same stupid shit over and over again

I used to carry a transcript of this speech around with me in a three ring binder, no joke. I got rid of the three ring binder, but this is still pretty good.

I love how he can't even do his HALF-HOUR show with his writers on strike, yet Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Boortz, Savage, etc etc etc on talk radio do it for 3 HOURS a day AND DON'T NEED WRITERS. What a joke. Oh, and josef-ferguson? They do topical programming and humor about the issues of the day, just like Stewart, except for the fact that they do it for three hours a day and were not affected by the strike. Do you really think millions of people would listen to the exact same things being said every day? Really? Think before you type.
