- Unfortunately it's in about everything that smells "GOOD",it's an emulsifier that carries scent,esp.. in most all of those expensive nice and smelley scented candles. Phthaltes is/was the bad thing in butter flavored microwave popcorn. My friend worked in a cubicle in a large office where they were always microwaving butter flavored popcorn. To make a long story short he died of lung cancer 9 mos. after diagnosis. He blamed it on Phthaltes. Thats new ! To late for my friend Chris and the countless people around ME even,dropping of Cancer left and right . I never use "nice smelly"stuff but I used to spend a fortune on Very fragrent candles. I was bummed by all this. It's true
