Useless but entertaining. At least for few minutes or so...

Water drops bouncing off plates and attracted by ... attractors

A little flash program that simulates the influence of three gravity-like force fields on a water-like substance. The entire frame has a gravitational field oriented straight down toward the bottom of the screen. There are two circles that simulate gravitational attractors. The "water" seems to have cohesive forces tending to pull it into tiny drops, but gravity also has tidal effects on the water, tending to stretch it into strands. It's possible to establish relatively stable orbits by moving things around. Toys like this will foster in children an intuitive understanding of orbital mechanics at an early age.
