Not willing to give them much applause for buying fakes and displaying them in deceptive ways for decades after the forgeries were exposed. Removing some art here and there and tweaking the descriptions of some pieces smacks of people who knew they were displaying forgeries and giving people the impression they were genuine.
Now the museum is in an excited, profiteering, self-aggrandising mode as they promote a February forgery exhibit. It's conveniently been given a sanitized, neutral title, which might make it easier to promote and sell related merchandise. Still, it begs the question: have they learned anything about the importance of valuing accuracy and forthrightness over profits?
