Hell of a good article, which explores the disconnect between the elite academic world and the workaday world of those they (theoretically) espouse to help. From the page: "Visit any elite campus in our great nation and you can thrill to the heartwarming spectacle of the children of white... more

I am a little less of a freak after reading this. An excellent read for anyone with any sort of intellectual capacity.

This article is "quite" unquestionable, in terms of it being correct in argument, as it sources from the writer's personal experience - which is outside our ability to determine fully. Though those commenting on this page have little choice but only to restate, or rephrase, or question the form or style of argument rather than the substance, in order to make a valid comment which could even pass to parallel the expertise of the writer on the subject. By this I am compelled simply to think "ok, pity, now let's fix this" and I suppose others would feel towards an inclining to the same or some form of purposeful response/action likewise. Nevertheless, I thank the writer for his very insightful article which has informed me much.

From the page: "There's no point in excluding people unless they know they've been excluded."

Excellent article on what sort of path the elite universities lead their students on, and what they don't teach. More importantly (to me), it describes the values and abilities that intellectual should have.

A surprisingly good stumble - a thoughtful and fascinating look at intellectual elitism within top tier universities, and its often overlooked drawbacks.

A great look at the other side. From the page: "â€oeIvy retardation,” a friend of mine calls this. I could carry on conversations with people from other countries, in other languages, but I couldnâ€t talk to the man who was standing in my own house. "

Most of these reviewers discuss what I would have commented as well. What I can say is maybe I am biased toward this article because I am the product of a public education. Maybe it is because while I was an over achiever in high school I became disaffected early in my college career. Maybe I chose to focus more on the quality of my life than on the quantity of activities and academic stress. Or maybe I just was not meant to be one of those 4.0 triple majors. I wouldn't accept the article whole sale but I do think it presents excellent points and discusses them well.

This is why I'm going to a public college.
