I won't thumb this down as I agree with most of what's said on the site, but calling yourself a 'bright'? Come on... we may as well be labeling ourselves 'giant assholes'.

what's wrong with "atheist"? bright just sounds retarded. i don't want to be known as a 'bright'. =P

Fear and loathing as atheist don't wish to be labeled in there dogmatic pursuit of a lack of evidence for the supernatural! LOL Hey atheist! You are labeled wither you like it or not. Tolerance for the intolerance of openly expressed religious belief.

I'm not going to thumb this down, but still... I just don't like this kind of emotional, self-gratulatory labeling. It's called policemen and -women, not "peace officers". And it's called naturalists, atheists or non-religious, not "brights".

I fit the description, but I don't need that label. Makes you seem like an asshole, the way I see it. They essentially just slapped a label on something that, if anything, should be telling us there is no need for labels. And calling yourselves Brights seems like a pretty huge bit of ego massage.

Usually I identify myself as a Critical Thinker in non-religious conversations or an Atheist if the question of God comes up. I don't just leave it at that though, I add the Bright's tag-line of holding a "worldview free of supernatural or mystical elements" because I feel Atheist is too specific a term. I also make it very clear in my tone and body language that I am proud of my thinking and that the other person's position is the one requiring defence (if the conversation goes in that direction).

I don't think the rational people are the ones that need a label.. rather than calling us "Brights", lets call the superstitious fools "Dulls".
