Probably not fake. More likely, they threw multiple planes until they had one that took such a long flight path.

Seems plausible, given the thermals over the city. The clean paper plane stands out over the dirty city, though as Claan22 says, that (along with the fact that the camera never loses the plane) does make it appear somewhat unbelievable.
