I don't see desktops becoming obsolete for a long long time. I really don't see them ever becoming obsolete in certain professions that require the use of multiple monitors and raw power. More space = more power and options, even if everything is small.

Desktops will never be obsolete. Anyone who actually uses a computer seriously (blogging does NOT count) should know this.

people have spouted off about the death of desktops ever since the early laptops that were the size of a suitcase. The shift is simply that people now own several computers. Desktop, Home Media, Laptop, UMPC, and even smart phones. Anyhow, 5400 rpm isn't anything to be bragging about. Compared to a desktop where 7200 rpm is standard packaged with terabyte HDDs that is awfully slow. The real revolution in HDDs for laptops is the SSD. They will keep doubling in size and get faster and faster until platters are gone along with punch cards and reel to reel tapes.
