Michigan's first and, as far as I know, only Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Theodore Roethke, was born and raised in Saginaw. After he died in 1963, his sister June continued to live at the house on Gratiot Road. This was where Ted & June were born & raised. After June died, Annie Ransford and Mary Roethke bought the house and created the Friends of Theodore Roethke Foundation to maintain the homesteads as literary landmarks.
