dgirlp rated 8 months ago- Culture pushing the big box forward... Wal-Mart Rolls out Reusable Shopping Bag Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott announced last week his company was introducing their own reusable shopping bag. The announcement came at a sustainability summit held near Wal-Mart's headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. The new Wal-Mart shopping bags are made from a fabric containing rPET. The bags are made from 85% recycled content and hold more than twice the amount of an average plastic bag. The bags will sell for $1 and be located near checkout aisles in Wal-Mart stores. Wal-Mart will also take the bags back at the end of their life-span for recycling. The bags are black in color and feature the slogan "Paper or Plastic? Neither." The new bags will appear first on the West Coast this weekend and roll eastward across the country throughout the month of October.

shaxxon rated 8 months ago- Wow! I read a news article that they hired an Environmental consultant from Rocky Mountain Institute to try to improve their image, perhaps this is one of the initiatives he tried to get rolling a year ago. I'm really pleased that they moved forward on this one. Hopefully smaller corporate chains will follow in this example as well.

AlthaeaSoaps rated 8 months ago- i can only imagine the anger and hostility these will be met with when they make it to Tennessee. i try very hard not to shop there, but when occasionally i don't have another option, i get a serious case of the "hairy eyeball" from everyone around me if i bring my own bag. even the staff of the walmart are bad about it. they assume i'm bringing bags to shoplift with, it seems.

evermann00 rated 8 months ago- Agree w/letumtutela... As much as I loathe actually going to wal-mart... I think this is great news... And unlike the a-hole comments of zakkb... I will get at least 1 just to support the effort of using them and recycling

letumtutela rated 9 months ago- I am not the biggest fan of walmart, but I must applaud the ingenuity of this; Being a worldwide outlet, it will save so much from ending up in our landfills..Kudos wal-mart.

sustainableisgoo rated 9 months ago- Wal-Mart released its new reusable shopping bag this past weekend on the West Coast. Read the full story and see exclusive photos - the only photos we've seen of the bag anywhere. Its is made from fabric containing rPET.
