I just moved into my parent's place for the summer; I couldn't find a job in Chicago to pay for rent without my student loans. But anyway, while I was here, I found some of my journals I had to write in school, when I was about 8, maybe a little younger, and while I was looking through it, I had at least 8 drawings of police as anthropomorphic pigs. Some of the pigs were beating humans, some of them were just standing around. I didn't think that I became so anti-police until at least middle-school, which was about the time I picked up the communist manifesto for the first time, so the pictures kinda shocked me; warmed the cockles of my heart a little bit. But anyway, the fact that I was conscious of the evils of the police at that age, as a well off white kid living in the suburbs, who was constantly picked on because he was one of about 20 white kids in a preschool through elementary school, is pretty incredible after reading this article. Where another 8 year old, living a life that seams to be the total opposite of mine, saying that police where the only thing protecting society from gangs. I don't know what to make out of all that. My parents were never anti-police, I never had a bad experience with the police... I don't know. Just the contradictions in this article between my life and his got me thinking.
