"to justify my sweeping assertion that the claims of religion have largely been debunked by science and philosophy I put together a little series of notes which I now collect here for future reference. Not to be taken too seriously - a bit like religion itself, I suppose!"

"Do the gods wish for what is good, because it is good; or is what is good, good, because the gods wish for it?" "Which do you think is more likely: that Jesus turned water into wine, or that somebody made that story up?" basically its all pretty interesting and shit loads of sources to read if you can be arsed. and its all written simple so thats good.

"Debunked"...I do not think it means what you think it means.

From the page: "Instead, we started out as pond scum, became fish, then small furry creatures, monkeys, and finally humans (missing out a few steps there)." Not exactly true. Humans didn't evolve from monkeys, rather monkey's and humans shared a common ancestor.

From the page: "And then Plato (in the words of Socrates) delivers the immortal punch line: "Do the gods wish for what is good, because it is good; or is what is good, good, because the gods wish for it?" Or something like that. This then came to be known as the Euthyphro dilemma, after the geezer who was off to condemn his dad because that's what he thought the gods wanted." 'Nuff said...

Hey conor, I think he was being facetious...

I don't like the way this guy keeps calling evolution "just" a theory. Evolution is a scienific theory, with all related science backing it up and the way American education lies about it is ridiculous.

i'm an atheist myself, and strongly oppose religion, but i'm beginning to get sick of these pages trying to prove religion wrong. have you ever read a religious document? they'll prove anything rational and sane completely wrong. just let them be happy the way they are. religion will always exist.
