What do you think about the Stumble button these days? Is it working? Well I experimented with it for a long time, often tweaking my toolbar settings, changing Topics=Interests and even dropping subscribers . . . but still kept getting junk. The biggest problem with Topics, which toolbar results appear to ride on, is that some of them are hold-alls into which everything vaguely related is dumped (Humor, Photography, a dozen or so others), and these have turned them into something like storage rooms into which too much stuff has been thrown -- by anyone and everyone over a long period. Eventually you just give up because it's chaos in there, a lot of material is decomposed, and there are also duplicates all over the place. But there's always another way through the maze with SU, and the methods I've been trying lately involve searching on Tags and using alternative search tools. I am not sure that Tags you subscribe to affect your toolbar results much -- since several I specified on my Interests page long ago have just never come up in my stumbles. But where Tags do work is when you use the form http://www.stumbleupon.com/tag/example/ - which will present featured sites. These seem to be much closer to the mark than anything you will get when typing into the search window on your home page. So if we are more specific with SU it has a better chance of coming up with the goods, which of course we KNOW are there. Think of SU as your lover (OK, tired old lover) and yourself as frustrated and bewildered because he doesn't know how to please you. Instead of sulking you could try giving him a few hints as to how to stroke you. This sort of communication works in real life, so I am always reading, so why not here?

We always have a question or two about SU. This is a good place to start when you are stuck.
