xguse rated 2 weeks ago- I tend to agree with the naysayers, unfortunately. I would LOVE for this to be the case, but the fact is that we are NOT making the headway into understanding the human brain as fast as would be necessary for their timeline. I am not saying that there is ANYTHING mystical about the brain or that we will never be able to intimately understand it, its just that they are carelessly over optimistic. Secondly, regarding the idea that we will eventually be able to 'upload' our consciousness into a surrogate body or computer system and thereby attain immortality is patently fallacious. You, your awareness, and your consciousness will die with your brain. All that will survive is a copy of your consciousness. There may be a program running that would make similar decisions as you, like to listen to the same music, and talk in the same speech patterns; however, it would no soon BE you than a clone of you would BE you. It would be a separate sentient agent that just so happens to have most of the same starting data. Might be good for the world if you are an Einstein, but the Einstein himself still shuffles off this mortal coil.

engocoka rated 5 months ago- These guys are either idiots, or scam artists. Have they even *heard* of Godel's incompleteness theorem? And did you see how much it costs to become a member? $82/month or $1000 one time fee? Holy shit! IEEE and ACM don't cost this much, why would I pay to join something that doesn't even support public research?

tonyp50 rated 6 months ago- This is an excellent site about AI development and ethics. We all should fear General Artificial Intelligence. Even the scientists involved can't predict what will happen after the singularity is reached and there is a hard takeoff.

fractalseed rated 7 months ago- A minor science fiction religion for lonely nerds with asperger's. I thought this stuff was great back when I lived in my mom's basement and masturbated to greg egan novels. Recommended for people that love over-reaching speculation cloaked in scientific jargon and people who think Moore's law is magically unaffected by the limits of physical reality.

strangevariable rated 8 months ago- I'm wondering whether or not humanity should be viewing this growing amount of Transhumanism as an inevitably. Have we forgotten about Naturalists, who would rather live in any scenario but the ones incorporating technology...? Or do we plan on having robotic forests, too?

harrystottle rated 9 months ago- If anyone had tried to have an intelligent discussion about the development of the worldwide web in - say - 1965 - they'd have been treated as nuts. Don't make the same mistake with regard to Transhumanism or this particular aspect of it - The Singularity. This is our future unless we self destruct first. You can choose to help or to hinder. The choice you don't have is to ignore it.

Ytube1 rated 10 months ago- I used to have nightmares about this very thing. The logical end to Moore's Law is sure to come.

Zharkov rated 14 months ago- Maybe i am dumb -why do i say maybe...- but i don't understand all that... Is that usual bullshit as "Hey, what about speaking about general facts? -Oh my god that sounds interesting, let's have a conference" Or is that more like people that work in labs in a purpose that is shared by every people of this organisation/society..?

dreamsindigital rated 14 months ago- Can't wait to watch all of these videos!
