Another way to explain why there are no viruses for OSX or Linux or Solaris, etc. is to look at what a virus would "need to do" in order to behave in its intended way (self-propagation, corrupting multiple files via a schedule / algorithm / both) on a system with real security: 1.... more

Old and irrelevant. I haven't had a virus in Windows since about 2000 when I switched permanently away from Windows 95/98/ME.

From the page: "Personally I donâ€t buy the â€oelack of market share” reason. Consider that in pre OS X days Macs did have viruses. Also interesting, that at that stage Macs were suffering point 1 & 2. No system is totally safe, but Macs have a lot of architecture working in their favor."

I love Ubuntu with KDE, and one day I'll use that again as my primary OS. But I have no complaints about having to reinstall OS X only twice in 3 years since owning a Mac. By choice too, not because of any problems, and definitely not because of viruses/malware. Contrast that with learning more about how to fix Windows XP than I ever wanted to know. It's a beautiful thing to be rid of it. My only gripe is now I am tech-support for my parents. (But who isn't?)

Mac OS X has can get viruses just like Windows can. Just because virus writers can't be bothered because only 4% of people use Macs doesn't mean viruses can't be made.

Buying a Apple computer is the best decision I have ever made with regard to technology. It's simply brilliant.
