Sometimes the simplest approach is best. Remember those lean, tough, well-defined hard laborers of yesteryear, the guys with the shovels, big hammers and heavy lifting? This is really just emulating those very same movements that have been proven through thousands of years of hard physical labor, putting it on a schedule and making it accessible for those of us in cushy modern jobs.

Reinhard has come up with a simple system that he and many others have used successfully. I advise all my weight loss clients to build up their muscles. This is the best way to keep weight off. This 14 minute a day method works well because it is simple and easy to do at home with one simple piece of equipment.

Yeah, I'm bumping this up higher again for inspiration. A couple I know told me that the husband was doing this 14 minute daily workout. His wife looked proud of him and said to him, "Show her your guns!" He is getting some nice definition on his arms. The movements have been proven over the millennia - they are imitations of work done outdoors, such as shoveling, churning butter, chopping wood... The movements use practically all the muscles in the upper body, and you can incorporate moves that work the lower body as well. On his No S Diet website, Reinhard Engels (the inventor of the workout and the writer of the diet) shows a mildly poodgy version of himself in his "before" shots. This is representative of the "after" shots he's provided over the course of the last few years. I'd say the combo of his diet and workout was working mighty fine! (And yes, I just received my 8 lb. sledgehammer in the mail 7/18. I'll post what I think of the workout as I get into it. I did my first workout 7/19 and got a really good sweat going. My shoulders feel it a little. I think I'm going to like this workout a lot.)

I actually just started doing this, and I have to admit that its the most fun exercise I've done in a while. Just don't go macho on it and buy the biggest, heaftiest maul you can get your hands on and try for "shovelglove kendo" your first day. He mentions using a broomstick on the page and thats probably a good place to start. Oh and make sure you have room to swing the thing. Don't want to take out your 20" LCD display with an errant swing.

I've been doing these exercises for a couple of months now. The philosophy behind it really strikes a chord and I feel like it's really good for me.
