I understand that McCain has reason to hold some grudge for his suffering as a PoW but do you really want that kind of contaminated and prejudiced view making decisions about your life if you're an Asian-American? From the page: "Arizona Sen. John McCain refused to apologize yesterday for his use of a racial slur to condemn the North Vietnamese prison guards who tortured and held him captive during the war. "I hate the gooks," McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. "I will hate them as long as I live." "

I don't begrudge the man his anger. I really, really don't. But he's going to need to find another way to express it. He doesn't say that he hates those guards -- he says "I hate the gooks." If he said he hated the guards, fine. But you have to realize that in present day, the use of that word is not acceptable. If he used "ni**er," would you excuse that because he'd experienced some sort of trauma in that context? Let him be angry but he's going to have a tough go as president if he doesn't clean this mess up.

"I hate the gooks," McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. "I will hate them as long as I live." Understandable, sure..and hey, why not? The "gooks" don't make up a very large percentage of the voting public, right?

The fact that he's still so angry over this that he as a politician would use a racial slur to refer to his captors shows that he is still not over the incident. Do we really want someone with PTSD as our president?

You know, I don't like his politics, I don't want his a president. But I cannot fault the man. He was tortured for 5 years, and I have to assume that it will change a man. I am not voting for him, but this would have had no effect.

From the page: "I hate the gooks," McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. "I will hate them as long as I live." Nice. While I appreciate this man's 'history', it would seem to me that someone who wants to be President of the 'most powerful nation on earth' could clean up his act and put the past behind him a bit more. *coughdumbshitcough*
