adrienned rated 6 months ago- From the page: " I have this ongoing discussion with a longtime reader who also just so happens to be a longtime Oakland high school teacher, a wonderful guy who's seen generations of teens come and generations go and who has a delightful poetic sensibility and quirky outlook on his life and his family and his beloved teaching career." I feel this way too sometimes, but then i really think about all the possible for my generation, i dont think we are doomed yet.

Budoshu rated 6 months ago- "After all, the dumber the populace, the easier it is to rule and control and launch unwinnable wars and pass laws telling them that sex is bad and TV is good and God knows all, so just pipe down and eat your Taco Bell Double-Supremo Burrito and be glad we don't arrest you for posting dirty pictures on your cute little blog."

yunyammka rated 8 months ago- I finally have proof that i'm not the only one who thinks that the public education system is shit and that the kids graduating from it are getting progressively dumber as we go

coop2 rated 8 months ago- From the page: "It is not merely a sad slide. It is not just a general dumbing down. It is far uglier than that."

laodan rated 8 months ago- American kids, dumber than dirt. Warning: The next generation might just be the biggest pile of idiots in U.S. history. via beautifulcorpse's SU pages, in SFGate.com by Mark Morford
it might be no stretch at all to say the biggest threat facing America is perhaps not global warming, not perpetual warmongering, not garbage food or low-level radiation or way too much Lindsay Lohan, but a populace far too ignorant to know how to properly manage any of it, much less change it all for the better. What, too fatalistic? Don't worry. Soon enough, no one will know what the word even means. American kids, dumber than dirt I don't know how to take this article. It's difficult not to think that the image drawn here is extreme but from what I observe on SU 95% of the blogs are collections of images stolen from here and there and most often not even mentioning the origin of their clippings. Pages of quality, I mean pages where people lay out their thinking, are very rare indeed. Is that a sign of the dumbing this article describes? Have any comments?

- i think that this is just looking at some of teens now. as a high school student, i can tell you that the majority of the things written in this article are FALSE. it just depends on what kids you look at. obviously, if you go to a regular class, there will be kids who can't write a paragraph or use a ruler, but there will also be kids who can. and those kids aren't gonna be the ones leading america in 10 years. it's gonna be the kids in the Honors and AP classes, who have real interest in learning and making something of themselves, their gonna be the ones becoming presidents and docters. those other kids are just gonna be janitors and other stuff

Yw8 rated 8 months ago- An interesting perspective, which gets even more interesting when you survey comments on different blogs where its been posted. "Truth News" "Free Republic" " Sign of the Times" "Democratic Underground

pcalnon rated 9 months ago- from the page: "We are, as far as urban public education is concerned, essentially at rock bottom. We are now at a point where we are essentially churning out ignorant teens who are becoming ignorant adults and society as a whole will pay dearly, very soon, and if you think the hordes of easily terrified, mindless fundamentalist evangelical Christian lemmings have been bad for the soul of this country, just wait."

Marcus-Lycus rated 9 months ago- I tend to agree with the generation gap analysis. You'd be surprised how fast one can learn what the word Agriculture or Democracy mean when a paycheck or a college degree is involved. Most kids are bored at school, which is more for the parents sake, you have to warehouse them until they can legally be on their own. The ones I talk to are damned smart, much smarter than I was at that age and I'm no slouch.
