Researchers have found evidence that rats are capable of metacognitionu2014that is, they can possess knowledge of their own cognitive states. This ability, which can also be thought of as the capacity to assess or reflect on one's own mental processes, was previously only recognized in humans and other primates. Metacognition: Faced with a test, rats can check their knowledge first
This one is part of an avalanche of new discoveries that demolish the long held belief in the exceptionalism of humans. Fact is we are no different than the other animal species we are simply one among them. The only significant difference is that humanity is the only one specie ever heard of to provoke a mass extinction of other species. What's also noticeable about humanity, at least in in its Christian capitalist form, is the mass-extinction of most other human cultures it provoked within the timespan of only a few centuries. And let's not forget about the footprint left by Christian Euro-centricism (approximately 10% of the world population) on Gaia, on the global environment, after barely 2 centuries of capitalistic activity... One wonders what could be the outcome of the participation of 100% of the world population in such a model of life.
