Article on protein and vegetarianism. The author has a bit of an attitude, but the facts are good/informative.

A fairly good article; it is definitely slanted and biased towards vegetarianism, but it does give some good facts on nutrition and basics of proteins. Unfortunately, the article didn't cite any sources for its information. American consumption of protein is closer to 2 times necessary or recommended, instead of the 6x suggested by the article. Furthermore, the article suggests excess protein can cause osteoporosis. It's true that with inadequate amounts of calcium in the diet, protein leeches calcium from bones, but given a proper amount of calcium, the protein is actually protective of bone density. The article also demonizes meat and cholesterol. Cholesterol is produced by the body and it's needed for cell walls and hormones. They compare the general American publics diet to that of a vegetarian. This is somewhat unfair in that it's entirely possible to eat meat and be in perfect health, just as it's possible for a vegetarian to be extremely unhealthy. Grouping conscientious non-vegetarians with the fast food, High Fructose Corn Syrup monstrosity that is America (and soon to be world) diet is a biased grouping to further promote a private agenda (in this case, convincing people to become vegetarian). Anyhow, it is just as I said, generally good information with some slanted sentences thrown in.
