Great list of rules of thumb. Although I practice evidence based medicine, I still find that my experience naturally has led me to compile a list of dental rules of thumb that I find very valuable in patient treatment.

RulesofThumb.org is a unique reference site: a website that attempts to gather all the "rules of thumb" in one place. The "rules" are contributed by site readers, of course, and readers can also vote on how useful or true any particular rule is. Bad rules get rated out of the collection, while good rules get more thumbs up.

In a thousand years time people will come acrooss the site and some David Attenborough type will mutter "well, we see here the traditional beliefs and customs of Homo Sapiens Urbanus at the beginning of the third millenium. Remakrkable, really..."

With this website, you have at your fingertips all the best rules of thumb collected since book number one plus everything voted into the Main Collection by online contributors like you. Each rule is followed by a source, or rumored source, or the name of the first person who sent it to me. The people listed are not necessarily claiming a rule of thumb as their own invention. A lot of contributors have sent in rules they heard from someone else. Many sent clippings or paraphrased another source. Some rules arrived as hearsay. Don't feel cheated if your mother's rule of thumb was sent in by an Italian psychologist from Nashville - your mother's rule is getting famous.
