"Under this legislation, downloading even a single mp3 file unauthorized by the copyright owner will give the federal government the power to take your computer." "If you boil it down to brass tax, this legislation allows the U.S. government to lawfully seize your computer if it has one unauthorized mp3 file on its hard drive. It also provides the authorization for the creation of offices within the executive branch to enforce a law that is impossible to enforce." wtf! this can be so unConstitutional!

From the page: "The criminals in the federal government are now trying to legalize the seizure of computers and other property under the guise of strengthening intellectual property laws. " Ok, so here's a thought. You get "accused" of having unauthorized material on your computer, down come the doors busted by the MP3 Czar. Then whilst in the house they are free to search and seize anything else that might come in handy to put you away for a long time. What ever happened to illegal search and seizure? I am SO pissed at our government.

"Under this legislation, downloading even a single mp3 file unauthorized by the copyright owner will give the federal government the power to take your computer." I'm getting really sick of seeing shit like this.

This is a good law. (sarcasm, folks) The government has given itself permission to take your stuff if you have an "unauthorized copy" of something, see the bill: "Any copies of a motion picture or other audiovisual work protected under title 17 that are made without the authorization of the copyright owner." This would include the tv show you recorded on your vcr while you were at work. Now, yes I know, the courts have ruled that Joe Average who records a tv show to watch later is not doing anything wrong. Or when I rip my cd's to listen to them on an ipod that's okay too. Supposedly. But here's where it gets nasty: Let's say I'm out and about with my ipod, and I end up getting arrested for civil disobedience of some sort. That's only a misdemeanor, at most. If the gov't wants to throw the book at me, they could go thru my ipod files and charge me with this, since technically I didn't get permission from the RIAA to make copies of my cd's, did I? They can also go to my house and seize my computer, and that's just too bad for me. Because like most of their seizure laws, you only have to be CHARGED with the crime for them to keep your stuff forever and ever. Not actually convicted, just accused. They can even drop the charges later, and guess what? They still get to keep your stuff, and you have to spend more money than you probably have (or what the stuff is worth) to sue them to get it back. Pretty nice deal for them, I'd say. If some cop doesn't like you, he can now not only seize your ipod, but also the computer you used to make the rips for it. This law says that anything used to facilitate making that "unauthorized copy" can be grabbed. Can they grab my house because the computer was using electricity that goes thru the house wiring? This adds a whole new element to those folks getting hounded by the RIAA. Again, you only need to be ACCUSED to have them come grab your computer. I wonder if they can grab google's servers if they find a movie or tv show posted. Man what a racket. -------------------- EDIT: They can grab your house in LA and NYC, sort of. They can declare your piracy as bad for public health and safety, as a crack or whore house is, lol. And then give you a hefty ticket and/or board your home up. http://www.roguegovernment.com/news.php?id=8996
