petroC discovered 10 months ago- adding a comment in response to the other comments. I actually know the lady referred to here. She was on a bench and nursing in her usual fashion, not indiscreetly. She was wearing a nursing shirt of the same kind my wife used to own. They hide the "naughty bits quite well.
Texas law allows mothers to breastfeed anywhere they are allowed to be. If she wanted to sit down in the middle of the floor in the Disney store she could have. instead she went to a more private bench, well away from crowds of people.
FYI: it's her first kid... so she isn't a 'lactivist' or she wasn't until this happened... I think they are staging a nurse-in this 9/23- adding a comment in response to the other comments. - Here, we can see only one side of the story. I see mothers breastfeeding their babies in many public places all the time and I can't see their breasts. Maybe she did breastfed indiscreetly to spite them, because she was poorly treated in the Disney store. I could be wrong. It is just my theory. It reminds me of a story I read recently about women taking advantage of the law and domestic violence organizations, claiming their innocent husbands had abused them to get full custody of their children.

ianrey rated 10 months ago- Why do lactivists always end up quoting "all the research shows" breastfeeding is good for the baby? No one is denying that it is. No matter how much research shows that urinating is good for your bladder, and holding it in is bad, I still would not support people who wanted to do it in the middle of a public place. Yes, you are expected to cover yourself when nursing in public, and I never had a problem with this when my kids were nursing. They're called "private parts" for a reason; ask yourself, "would I expose my nipples right now in the middle of a mall if I wasn't nursing?" If the answer is no, you must acknowledge that exposed nipples in our society have some taboo, and that the mall cop, if not the store clerk, had some point.

Muirgheal rated 10 months ago- read and support! Edit: This edit is in response to the other comments. The website says specifically that the woman asked to use a "changing room" so she could nurse "discreetly and away" from other costumers. This was denied to her by the Disney store employee. She then had to opt for a bench in the public area, but even there she says that it was more out of sight. The most important point is this though: she was protected by law to nurse her baby in a public place and these people violated that law and humiliated her. By the way, comparing a nursing baby to urinating in public is a bad analogy. That baby is eating after all, not peeing! Here is a little anatomy lesson for all those decency obsessed people out there. When you nurse there is no nipple showing. The nipple and almost all of the breast is covered by the baby. Unless you think tummies are obscene, because that is what you can usually see.
