blueblau discovered 7 months ago- Tipping Tips from Europeans for 13 EU countries.

chocAddict rated 8 weeks ago- Tipping can be a problem. Every country has it's own rules. The problem is always when to give a tip to whom - and how much do you give. Here in Germany in a restaurant I tip the waiter about 10% of the bill since they get a small wage here. In the US or Canada I give around 16% of the bill. I tip to show my appreciation for a service a person has provided. Such as a room-maid. The problem here is - where to put the tip. At least I seem to have a problem with this. After my first night in London I put one pound on the desk beside my bed, since I thought this might be an appropriate place to leave a tip. When I came home late at night I found the pound still lying there. The next morning I placed one pound on a tray next to a glass I used. But it had the some effect - the money was still there when I got back to my hotel room. So the next morning I wrote the above note (photo on the left) and placed the tip on top. When I came back in the evening I found the above notice (photo on the right). I had to smile. Finally it worked out.

- So much easier in Finland. Here tipping is rare... and hardly anybody gets upset not being tipped.

ajanelle rated 7 months ago- I'm never tipping again!!!! There was a tip jar in front of the register at Moe's the other day. WHAT?! Would I have been tipping the cashier or the guy who threw beans on a shell (in front of my face) and forgot my cheese? Do they not get paid?

OrangeAppled rated 7 months ago- It seems like we spend a lot more on tips in the US, haha. As one entry brought out though, the wages may be higher for the same job in another country.

lisajojo rated 7 months ago- It's true... tipping is such a different experience in Europe. The whole idea of it here in America has gotten completely out of hand. I refuse to tip someone for handing me something over a counter.
