From the page: "When I first decided to go vegetarian I learned that to get enough protein, vegetarians must "eat lentils or beans every day". Who on earth would do that? - I wondered, since I didn't care for beans or lentils at that time. But many years later I learned that... more

There's some solid advice in this if you look hard enough.

I am expected to take diet advice from someone who won't drink tap water, but will eat bulk corn intended for consumption by livestock, of which 95% is GMO corn. Meh.

Interesting, if a little extreme. Read this paragraph about water: "the only thing that we ever drink is water. That saves a ton of money, and is essential for maximum health. But, the water must be reverse osmosis water. Town water has way too many chemicals in it, besides tasting ghastly. R.O. water tastes great! (Distilled water is bad to drink, because it affects your mineral content)." Also: "Sometimes tricky resellers actually charge you MORE per pound when you buy the bigger containers." It is the MANUFACTURER or DISTRIBUTOR that charges more for some smaller containers! Check the price of tuna in the standard small can versus the large one in any store! Grocery stores themselves are paying more for the larger cans because fewer people are buying them, thus less money is made. In the grocery industry profit margins on food are RAZOR THIN, but it all eventually adds up with enough business...

You might want to keep one thought in your head when reading this article. How did humans live before agriculture? Not on grains and beans and little else that's for damn sure. Eating overpriced packaged crap is not good for you but eating a vegan diet of food our bodies are ill equipped to handle is bad as well. Here's a simple rule of thumb. If you can't eat it raw think twice about eating it. Wheat rice and beans are inedible uncooked and will likely make you sick. Don't assume that statement is just stupid and dismiss it. Try eating your grains and starches raw. Do it for a week, what the hell. If I am wrong you are sure to be perfectly healthy at the end of that week. As for my diet, while I do cook most of my food I would bet I could live indefinitely on raw meat, fruit and green veg.

I won't be going that extreme (and town water tastes fine by me!) because there's no way I'm going to go vegetarian but it's true that cooking meals from scratch in bulk and freezing portions can taste better while being healthier and cheaper than buying prepared meals.

There are some good ways to save money, but I would seriously hate to be stuck in his house if I wanted a snack. I'm willing to sacrifice some money to eat more than beans and lentils.
