This is Po Lin Monastery's Tian Tan Buddha located in Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. It was a $68 million undertaking, and was completed in 1993. You know, there is no other religious figure I've felt quite as comfortable around than the Buddha. The Buddha doesn't judge, or stare, or make me feel like I'm missing something. He simply... listens. The Madonna has almost the same affect on me. I feel so peaceful and introspective when I am around these figures. I am able to reflect on my past deeds and what I've learned from them, and decide how I am going to apply them to my future. I am ill at ease around other mainstream religious figures, like Jesus. I find them harsh and judgmental, even though I am aware that they are merely an artist's rendering. I guess I can sum it all up with, "I've never met a Buddha I didn't like."
