- Nice summary of Hawkins' book. Speaking of, I thought Hawkins' ideas were a great way to model how the brain works. It might not actually be how the brain works, but it's pretty thought-provoking.

- Interesting AI software released by Jeff Hawkins, inventor of the Palm Pilot, operates on a theoretical model of the neocortex. Instead of trying to simulate the whole human brain, as with B lue Brain and others, he specifically is attempting to model the neocortex. Also, instead of a complete neuron simulation he has broken down the functioning of the neocortex in to a simple model based on his interpretation of its functioning.
Will this new model be effective? We won't know until we see some results. There are many, many models and associated AI implementations the brain.
