as a beginner I find it very useful in trying to make that trasition from Windows. I also use Simply Mepis. Both have been effective viz-a-viz seamless installation. Everything just works. I recommend trialling either distro. IMV, Puppy is set to gain in popularity.

Nice distro and adaptable to several uses whether from live cd or USB key. Small download and well worth a try + good on older computers.

Great distro for older PC's. It's either the Puppy or DSL-N.

Puppy Linux is moving against the tide - small, efficient and easy to install without affecting your computer at all. Download 50 MB and put on a CD and it runs entirely from CD. Or you can keep your OS and files on a USB card.

Puppy is a great small Linux distribution. It boots up quickly has everything needed. The primary downside, which can be a great annoyance to new users, is that you must start your ethernet card and usb devices manually. It is very easy to do, but considering this was made for beginners, isn't a very good thing. At first, I was assuming that my ethernet card didn't even work. Anyhow, I tried this on a few computers. It even runs well on 32mb of RAM. I highly recommend at least trying out this small disto.

I've been using puppy for 6 months now and it has given new life to an old 500mhz I had laying around. It is small, fast and it does everything you need for your daily needs.

Puppy is an evolutionary operating system, based on GNU Linux. Booting from CD, Puppy will load totally into RAM so that the CD drive is then free for other purposes. Booting from CD, Puppy can save everything back to the CD, no need for a hard drive.
