- Miners at BHP Billiton's Ekati Diamond mine in Northern Canada are on strike for a first contract and their employer is refusing the budge. People often think of Canadian diamonds as the "solution" to the so-called conflict diamonds coming from wartorn countries - but if mining companies anywhere aren't following health and safety protocols and engaging in union busting, then their dirty diamonds should be boycotted too.
