Anitra rated 24 months ago- Justin Logan of the Cato Institute throws out a caution that electing a Democratic administration in 2008 may not bring the troops home from Iraq. While Democratic voters overwhelmingly reject the war, party leaders are promoting the line that Iraq can be won with a change in leadership in Washington. This is something that we should be cautious about, certainly. Another caution to keep in mind is that the Cato Institute is by no means nonpartisan; they may have turned against the Bush administration, but their brand of libertarianism still leans more right than left. Justin Logan is likely to favor the replacement of radical Republicans with moderate Republicans, rather than with any variety of Democrats. It is one of the strange twists of politics that moderate Republican candidates are more likely to favor cutting our losses in Iraq, while many major Democratic candidates seem to favor still trying to win the pot, by upping the ante and trying a new system.
