Xoria rated 3 weeks ago- I love doing things like this with my youngest son when we have rainy days and need something to do indoors. We always have a blast working on things and giggling and opening up such great dialog! This is a project that we'll surely be doing in the future.

aleph28 rated 7 weeks ago- v.cute mushroom decorations!!!

MrsA rated 7 weeks ago- I can't begin to tell you how lucky I was to have the grandparents I had. Before St. Valentine's Day, they would help us make fancy valentine cards to take to our class parties. They weren't just a little paper with a crayon drawing scribbled on it either. My grandmother would help us make fancy, seasonally appropriate designs with glitter and paper doilies on nice thick sheets of pretty red or pink construction paper. My grandfather would help us come up with something clever to write on the inside of the cards and make sure we made one or two more than we thought we needed just in case we had accidentally forgotten a classmate. During the peach and berry season (mid-April to mid-June where we are), they would buy bushels and bushels of fruits from the farmers' market and let us help them put up jams or pickled peaches. During the summer and fall, they had us come over and help them harvest and can vegetables and make several varieties of cucumber pickles in the summer then wonderful green tomato pickles in the fall. They always made it seem like a game and they made sure they praised us for our efforts. When family was coming in from out of town, they would let us help them. We got to polish silver, fill sugar bowls and help open windows to air out the guest room. He would take the boys fishing then let them help him grill any fish which she didn't batter and fry. She showed us how to unwrap soaps and let them air dry to harden so they would hold their shape in the soap dish for company and last longer once company was gone. She would get us to help with pies, cakes and her marvelous divinity while he had the boys outside smoking briskets, chickens or turkeys. Around mid-October the *real* magic began. They would get all of the grandkids over at their house to do arts and crafts. They showed us how to make Christmas gifts for our parents, siblings, other grandparents and friends. We even got to make Christmas tree ornaments like this little girl is doing. I personally was in hog heaven when I got to go to their house with my cousins. They loved us dearly and it showed as they exhibited the patience of Job with our clumsy little fingers, loud giggles and our occasional tom-foolery. I think every kid should have the good fortune of being the grandbabies of folks like my maternal grandparents--my Gram and Pop.
