As a Technical Writer, I always try follow these rules. Especially No. 28 ~ Never use a big word when a diminutive alternative would suffice.

ummmm... read william safires rules and ignore this crap. Or follow these rules and shed any essence of style and don't "write good." Aliteration rules, as does consanance and assonance. Unless this is satire, which of course means its bad satire.
