Jonathan Miller did a series in 1978 called "The Body in Question" which illustrated this effect. The skit he used involved attempting to park a car. While wearing a hard hat in 1968 I automatically would duck lower under low pipes than I would without the hat. When you carry a ladder the unseen end of the ladder will become an extension ... eventually.

I'm wondering if this also applies to other movements like when you push a box. You know how long the box is and when it's going to hit the wall, right? So maybe it's managing the item in the same manner even though it's not a tool. Also, how long does it take for our brains to change like this?This is interesting stuff. I love Science! :D

Whew! At first I was worried that they weren't going to be able to use "their arm successfully following after tool use" but they were. That experiment was pretty risky. I'm surprised anyone agreed to it in the first place.

it does make sense. I get lost whenever I don't get to eat the cookie in the cookie jar, grab a tool like spoon to open the tin can.
