This article is obviously flawed. While it does make sense that it would take place in Springfield, OR where Groening grew up, it is clearly not that. First of all that "bear fighting woodsman" that founded the town, Jebediah Springfield, is a revolutionary war veteran. By the time a town was founded in Oregon any vets from that war would be feeble or dead. Secondly, in the "Behind the Laughter" episode, at the very end, if you pay attention to it, the announcer actually calls them a "Small town Kentucky Family" Which means that Springfield, KY is the only logical place for this. And the rafting episode that they speak of, well there is a major river, the Ohio River, which dumps into the Mississippi River which empties in to the gulf of mexico, in which it would make sense that there are oil and gas platforms off shore. Lastly, in his analysis the author eliminated all states without coastlines. He must have failed geography in elementary school because New Hampshire does in fact have a coastline. If they didn't mention the fact that the simpsons were a kentucky family my best guess would have been Massachusetts because there are many new england type references in the show, especially in the earlier seasons.

Where it says it has one elementry school, in fact it dosent beacause remember that episode where Lisa gets a lift to school from krusty and it turns out to be a diffrent school and she misses the science fair? Anyway, still very clever how the worked it out.
