OK, now these folks take 'DIY' to a whole 'nother level! It's a scrounged/refurbished/rebuilt steam engine for home use!

Using a steam engine to recharge a 48V home battery bank (at 2KW) using local wood. Interesting homebrew alternator based on the DIY wind generator designs. Found on msiegel's great SU blog.
