Even aside from the whole tampon thing...umm pencils? pens? highlighters? HELLO. What, are these kids supposed to load their pockets with writing utensils?

- Well, I've always thought teenage girls should learn to be assertive and confident. There's nothing shameful about the menstrual cycle. Of course, it's pretty shameful that kids can't bring bags to school. If someone wants to shoot up the school, they're going to do it regardless of metal detectors, no bag rules, etc. Hello false sense of security.

Taking your bag to the loo with you is bad enough as it indicates you might be on your period, but only being allowed to take a bag in when you are is even worse!
You can fit a gun in your pocket! Are they going to start banning baggy jeans too?

- Another example of reactionary thinking. Totalitarian rules that aren't tempered with rational thought and common sense are often as bad or worse than the problems they're meant to solve.
This story in particular isn't big news - it's only one little high school and the worst effects are embarrassment, but it highlights the larger problem with these types of stupid policies.

- I was so disconcerted by the awkward position the school administration is putting these students in that I failed to notice the strangeness of a bag ban. Does that include no backpacks? That certainly wouldn't be possible in my school (and I imagine in most schools) because of the textbooks, binders, calculator, pencils, pens, notebooks, lunch, etc students need to carry. This just seems odd.
