More brazen lies from the Bush White House - good for the House Dems (Senate Democrats AGAIN allowed fear and political calculation to govern their votes) for showing some concern for the law and for the truth. BTW, despite what the Bush noise machine says, under FISA, surveillance can begin immediately. The government has 72 hours to obtain the order from the FISA court. http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/50/usc_sec_50_00001805---000-.html The Bush administration clearly believes that it can and should act without any oversight - judicial or congressional. The real question is WHY - is this part of Cheney's crazed unitary executive fantasy or is this another attempt to hide their activities from the public? WASHINGTON -- The House broke for a week's recess Thursday without renewing terrorist surveillance authority demanded by President Bush, leading him to warn of risky intelligence gaps while Democrats accused him of reckless fear mongering.
