From the page: "He continues, "The War on Drugs is a War on Economics. You can ignore economics if you want. You can even fight economics. But economics is going to win every time.""

From the page: "the record of history is absolutely crystal clear: that there is no alternative way so far discovered of improving the lot of the ordinary people". These quotes by Friedman are very revealing. The most important words above are "so far". He refers to history as proof that pure capitalism is the best way and the only way, for the future. But, it's a whole new ball game, now that we have global inter-communication. Friedman simply could not wrap his mind around the new world, remaining stuck in the old way of thinking. Here's where he reveals his inability to think progressively: "The world runs on individuals pursuing their separate interests." This is only possible when we lack information about the other individuals. Friedman lacks the vision to see what happens when all the blinkers are finally lifted off, when we begin to see eachother. Blind old man. The "angel" to which he later refers is a new animal which is called "co-operative capitalism", a blending of free enterprise and humanitarianism. A more mature version of capitalism if you will, one which reflects that the human race has finally grown up, capable of perceiving itself accurately. Poor guy, let's not be too hard on him - after all, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
