the "why?" is because to rescue files and corrupted OS's, peopleusually use linux. For those that are unable or unwilling to learn unix/linux, they can windows instead to recover things.

Great, great little utility for building XP boot CDs. I've saved more computers with Bart PE that would have other wise been "melted down". I hope he makes one for Vista.

This is the Coolest! When Safe Mode doesn't work anymore. its Bart PE (Personal Edition) to the rescue. You can boot windows xp, 2003, XP2, or Dos if you want, and it all boots off the cd. Check this out: The CD drive letter is known as (A) and the C: drive is still your main drive, just as if you booted from a floppy with XP on it. Excellent! That means any self running programs that don't need to be installed again because of Registry entries needed, will run off of your Hard drive because the drive lettering scheme is STILL THE SAME! I have saved machines many of times with this little dandy, and now they have it out for you to build your own. Is it complicated; a bit. Is it worth the time? Definitly. Only drawback is that some of the new network cards won't work with the drivers provided, so make sure you look to see whats supported. back to work!

Bart's PE Builder helps you build a BartPE bootable Windows CD from the original Windows XP setup CD. It will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem support.
