A couple of space colony summer studies were conducted at NASA Ames in the 1970s. Colonies housing about 10,000 people were designed. A number of artistic renderings of the concepts were made. These have been converted to jpegs and are available as thumbnails, quarter page, full screen and publication quality images.

- 35 years ago, when I was about 8 years old, I assumed that I would be living in something like these; round about now. It seemed natural - and I am sure I was not unusual in having such assumptions. In fact I remember a teacher telling my class that the biggest problem, facing my generation, would be in finding ways to fill all the leisure time we would have as a result of living in a totally automated society. I feel cheated - by whom exactly, I am still not sure ;)
