penman2 discovered 33 months ago- My god-daughter's sister is currently working on a charity_supported project to help rural villagers in part of Nigeria by building a bridge across a river that is impassable during the long rainy season. Despite having worked in a variety of countries, I believe she may be finding the speed at which problems can be solved somewhat frustrating. Resources are scarce and conditions can be tough at times. Fortunately, the villagers are very kind and supportive. The site contains some excellent photos of Nigerian village life. I'm sure there must be some way to contribute to the project if you investigate the site. Otherwise feel free to contact her and offer words of encouragement - and if you happen to be a bridge engineer and have some ideas on how to construct one that won't get washed away, I'm sure suggestions would be appreciated.
