Went to a concert last night. It was at the Fine Line Cafe in Downtown Minneapolis, MN. A wonderful mix of Jazz- and Alternative- with a twist of eccentric fun thrown in for good measure. The concert started off with a few songs by the muchly undiscovered, Greg Laswell. The guy seemed really depressed, and told stories that made me want to go up there and give him a hug, but his music...My goodness- He was incredible! He sounds a million times better live. He entered his own world- and pretty much stayed there. I'm not sure if he's depressed- a big thinker- on drugs- or all of the above. Either way- he produces great music. The second group to take the stage was The Bird & The Bee- Excellent! She came out in a 70's baby doll dress- white tights- and some funky shoes. She was another artist that went into her own world- and she was quite amusing to watch. She knew how to put on a show, and I found her talent to be quite large. The others in her band weren't lacking talent either. Standing on the side of the stage- I had a perfect view of everything going on. This was one group that truly loved what they did- and it was evident. At one point in her show- she brought on stage- Sia- who was the main act. Sia was not dressed for the show yet, but instead came on wearing jeans- and a white top- with pink converse shoes. She asked Sia to come up- to harmonize with her- and Sia was all too happy to oblige. If you didn't love it- trust me- you weren't alive. Then there was Sia- and when she took the stage- she delved into her jazz voice in about .2 seconds. Excellent show- she's so funny- you can't help but laugh through much of her segues between songs. My cheeks were literally in pain before the night was over. The band was incredible. The stage there is intimate enough to produce one of those close experiences- where you can feel the characters- and hear the music with perfect clarity. What a loverly moment in my life. Ahhhh Music. Felt good to be home. Close enough to the stage to feel the lights. Close enough to almost put a foot on it. Close enough to imagine being on it for a few moments. On that note- it reminds me... Time doesn't stop- even when it seems the world is turning a bit too fast. Try to enjoy it- it will continue to march at it's steady beat...regardless. Take the moments you enjoy- and really feel them. Don't let them pass unnoticed.
